Monday 24th June from 3.00 to 9.30pm

Regent’s University Gardens

York Bridge, London NW1 4NS

The networking event of the year in luxurious surroundings within Regent’s Park

At the time of writing (Thursday night) we have close to 600 guests registered to attend this year’s Televisual Village Fete.

We have four bars, two excellent street food vans, a table tennis tournament, a table football competition, shuffleboard, air hockey, giant chess, a grading and workflow demonstration and a raffle with 17 fantastic prizes; all set in the most glamorous Central London setting with a huge pavilion framed by ivy-covered college walls. (The location is very photogenic.) The weather forecast looks promising with light clouds clearing as the afternoon goes on and temperatures up to 25 degrees.

But most of all the Televisual Village Fete is about YOU and what should prove to be the very best networking event of the year

The pavilion is purpose built every year to host grand garden parties for FTSE 100 corporate garden parties… and this year for us to enjoy.

THE LOCATION

REgent’s university garden, Regents Park, London NW1 4NS

The address for Regent’s University is “Inner Circle”, but it is best to think of it as York Bridge.

The venue is a 25-minute walk from the top of Soho and easily reached from Noho.

The nearest tube station is Baker Street, and it is a very pleasant six-minute stroll from there to the venue. Baker Street is served by the Bakerloo, Jubilee, Metropolitan and City and Circle Lines. From Baker Street, you would turn left off Marylebone Road on to York Gate through the magnificent John Nash Buildings. Continuing straight from York Gate, and crossing the road, York Gate becomes York Bridge. There is a paved footpath both before and after a gentle bridge over a river which you pass and very shortly afterwards there is a turning to the left into the gardens, where you will see the logo and sign in..

I am sure many of you will use Google Maps, but hoping this helps. The only tricky bit is going to the correct entrance, so look out for a Televisual Village Fete sign on your left as you walk up York Bridge. (If you see palatial park gates in front of you, you have gone too far and need to retrace your steps about 100 yards). Please do not go to the main reception at Regent’s University as you can’t get in that way. York Bridge is a continuation of York Gate as you cross the Outer Circle.

York Gate, where it meets Marylebone Road, with beautiful John Nash buildings

If you see these palatial gates, you have reached the Inner Circle. Turn South

Entrance gate, on the left as you go North on York Bridge, behind which are the gardens…

Four bars and two posh street vans to choose from within our own Shangri-La

For clarity, all food and drink is free, although we invite you to buy a raffle ticket and support a good cause.

And yes, we have non-alcoholic drinks including mineral water, coca cola and sparkling fruit drinks.

Champagne BAR

(Chilled to perfection by Lexie, Ian, Steve, JJ and Greg at HHB)

COCKTAILS?

(Perifery Pete has Moscow Mules or Aperol Spritz to quench your thirst)

The BEER & WINE BAR

(The Jigsaw24 Media team have ice-cold lager, a selection of ales and wine)

POSH DOGS

(Salon’s Nick is sponsoring exotic sausages including vegan options)

PERFECT pimm’s

(At the Editshare bar you will find the best Pimm’s with all the garnishes)

wood-fired pizza

(Darryl from East On Media has delicious meat and vegan pizzas)

Given that the weather forecast is for a bright sunny day (and last year it rained), I thought I would include photographs from 2022, when the fete was a smaller affair and the venue not as glamorous, but the sun shone upon us.

Should you run out of things to say (which is unlikely) or just want to have fun

table tennis

(LucidLink’s Rupert is running the tournament this year… for all comers)

shuffleboard

(While Big Pic Media bring the trendy bar game that has taken over from pool)

An industry community event, but outdoors

TABLE FOOTBALL

(With a nod to the Euros, Sohonet are bringing footie to the fete)

Where’s wally

(Where indeed? He might just be on the Perifery)

A table tennis tournament is part of the fete

AIR HOCKEY

(Symply invite you to try your hand at the arcade classic)

Garden games

(Jigsaw24 Media’s has Connect 4 and we also have Giant Chess and Jenga)

And a beautiful sunset is (almost) guaranteed

A village fete should have a heart…

… and so we encourage you to enter the raffle in support of humanitarian aid for the people caught in the middle in Ukraine and in Gaza and the West Bank

EVERY £5 DONATED BUYS A RAFFLE TICKET AND WE HAVE 17 DESIRABLE PRIZES

Some say ‘nothing comes for free’, although I would beg to differ. Others say (and sometimes sing) ‘the best things in life are free’ and they are both right and wrong. In this case, everything at the fete is free and, thanks to our sponsors, a very generous ‘free’ it is too. We encourage you to buy raffle tickets through JustGiving pages and where your money, plus an additional tax rebate, will go to two of the most urgent causes we can think of. In exchange we have 17 amazing prizes up for grabs and you have very good odds of winning them, not forgetting the more you give, the more likely you are to win. Not only will you enjoy a fantastic and memorable event, but you might take home something special to remember the day (or simply have given £20 to a good cause).

We have the following sponsors and prizes:

  • Simon and Kev from AJA and the ever effervescent Marc from DigiBox have an AJA T Tap Pro (which I can vouch for as an essential workflow product without which our 2022 demo would have been fatally flawed and at £1,000 (inc VAT) retail is a very generous gift.

  • My good friend Guy from AKA has volunteered a magnum of fizz.

  • As has my only other good friend, Michael from BMG (who has also curated the playlist for the event).

  • Mathew and Chris from Convergent DS have surpassed themselves with half a case of fine wine.

  • While Charles at Digital Garage and Dan from HP have volunteered a laptop… and who doesn’t want a new laptop.

  • Simon from Dot Group has half a case of Champagne (and therein holds an entertaining story from last year’s raffle).

  • The ever-suave Darryl from East On Media Solutions knows how to charm with a fine magnum of Bollinger.

  • Arthur from FilmLight can tickle you with tales of yore and offers a bottle of Nyetimber.

  • Hiring Post’s very own Dorian Grey, AKA David (or DJ), is very generously offering an iPad.

  • Gemma and Jess from Post Super will get the party started with a Magnum of Nyetimber.

  • RePro Stream may well be a new company you haven’t yet heard about, but most of you will know Phil from somewhere in the Southern hemisphere who brings a bottle of exquisite Perier Jouet.

  • Andy from Seagate only came into this market a year and a a bit ago, but has made an impression. He brings not just one, but two prizes, including a 5TB portable Lacie Drive and a magnum of fizzzz.

  • Rich and Keith from Symply have a Xencelabs tablet to offer. Xencelabs is another new brand to conjure with where the USP is how can they offer so much within a graphics tablet for so little.

  • tanooki has taken an assonant approach to their prize in the realistic expectation that you will conflate their kadai prize with their new platform offer. I am told (and didn’t know) that a kadai fire bowl is a must-have within a certain circle.

  • There can be few among us who don’t know Tysers Live who bring a magnum of decent bubbles as an appetiser. (You have to be a certain age to connect that one).

How to show your support

This year we will be holding a raffle to support two charities:

The Israel and Occupied Palestinian Territory Appeal and The Disasters Emergency Committee Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal.

Please click on one of the QR codes on the flyer you’ll be given when you come in or come to the raffle tent. Alternatively, you can donate to either of the charities by clicking on one of logos alongside. We will be allocating one raffle ticket for each £5 donated, so please be sure to leave your name with your donation.

The lucky raffle winners will be announced at 7.45pm within a short presentation. The winners will be drawn by way of a random number generator.

  • AJA have many products that support production and post including Kona cards, T Tap Pro and the powerful FS HDR supporting up, down, cross-conversion from 2K/HD/SD to 4K or UltraHD video and back over.

    Introducing AJA ColorBox

As demand for 4K/UltraHD grows, and virtual sets introduce custom configurations, productions are working harder than ever to achieve consistent, colour-accurate looks from lens through to post. As Digital Image Technician (DIT) Jamie Metzger put it, “Staying on top of monitoring and data technology is a job in and of itself, but it’s important to find the time to discover tools that can make the job easier.”

One tool that’s helping Metzger and other production professionals keep pace with evolving colour management strategies on-set is AJA ColorBox. The portable, high-performance converter for colour-managed workflows supports low latency, in-line HDR/SDR algorithmic, and LUT colour transforms for live production, live event, in-studio, and on-set applications. Available since fall 2022, ColorBox is proving itself invaluable across a diverse range of environments as productions navigate new technology and workflows.

A touch of gravitas

An important point of difference between the UK and most other countries is not only the strength and breadth of our operational and creative talent, but also just how well connected and mutually supporting our community is. This close network benefits UK Indies and overseas studios delivering for broadcasters, streamers and film distributors alike and enables the UK to be the best place in the world to shoot and master broadcast, HETV and feature films. Only last night I was scrolling through the credits for Alex Garland’s Civil War and noted how many UK companies and individuals had supported DNA Films blockbuster film. (Even though it was shot with tax credits in Georgia, it returned to the UK for finishing post.).

The UK is awash with ‘boutique’ craft-led facilities with so many talented operational and creative individuals alongside knowledgeable freelance operators; all with a passionate approach and an exceptional attention to detail. But it is the ability to bring these skilled companies and individuals together for a common purpose that sets us apart. This networked ‘super-facility’ with a common language is attractive to those looking at shooting and mastering HETV and feature films from overseas and is the fabric of what makes the UK a unique destination for creative excellence.

An important additional observation is how the UK is so often the testing ground for new technologies and advanced workflows, even though the vendors are often American. (When I go to NAB, I am often struck by just how much British technology IP migrates overseas, how so many British technologists are employed in the United States and how disappointing it is that we can’t retain and build our own technology companies… but that is a different conversation linked to venture capital.)

The UK is known to be a capable early adopter of new approaches to content creation and in the years to come our ability to positively embrace technology change is going to define our collective future. The Televisual Village Fete offers the opportunity to discuss what’s coming through with leading post vendors and resellers alike.

This last year has been draining for many. The industry does now look to be picking up with many productions already shooting and many more starting in Q3, although the result (and 2025) seems likely to look more like 2019+ than 2022. That being said, I hope the extension of the expenditure / tax credits, as negotiated so well by Neil Hatton, has the impact we all hope for and can be brought forward from April to January 2025.

The UK facilities sector is defined by exceptional individual craft skills and technical know-how and how you work together to better serve the production. It is with this in mind that I hope the fete proves a positive, insightful and enjoyable event for all those who attend.
